This is a very 'how long as a piece of string question.' I understand you're saying you qualified 10 years ago and spent 5 years as product controller in an investment bank and then another five years as an accountant in private equity. You should therefore be on a director level salary of somewhere between £100-120k base and total comp of £300k-ish. If you want a greater annual income you will get a larger bonus in an investment bank. However, if you want to accumulate personal wealth, you will be better off in private equity or a hedge fund, where you may be able to coinvest in the funds they run. If you are touching CFO level in a private equity fund or hedge fund, you might also get some benefits linked to the performance of your firm.
