Accept an offer for a less than ideal job and continue looking?

Given the current market and not having the luxury of being able to afford unemployment for much longer, is it advisable to take a job which is not ideal but in order to have an income, and continue looking? Is this wrong?

  • I would definitely take a job in the current market. As long as it is broadly what you are looking for. YOu do not have the luxury of choice at the moment and markets are unlikely to pick up significantly before yearend I suspect. There is a saying, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!". Good luck.

  • If you are good enough, hold out! Its not good taking anything as your CV will suffer in the lond run. if you are young, get a temp job and save some moeny, then go travelling and return when people start hiring again mid 2009 probably..if the job that was offered is really not what you are looking for that is.. don't waste your time doing menial work, as you will regret later on. Show some character!

  • I agree, if you are young then you can can possible hoold oout but remeber that moving serveral time at the start of your career can be forgiven if followed by period of stable employement If you ar above 25 then you are may be classes as uncommited. another point is that jobs in finance are few and far between... you have to take what you can until the markets recover (expect up to 2010)
