What does a man have to do to get work around here? 2 years Options Trading experience and Masters in Physics!

Hints or tips from those who have been around these markets longer than I and have words of wisdom for someone determined to carve a career in this competitive arena. Any ideas for Banks, Investment Funds/Firms or Hedge Funds that are actually hiring at the moment. Even the name of a good recruiter would be useful.

  • trade your own book for a while... with 2y experience you must have plenty of spare cash to post some margin into a spread betting account. demonstrate a decent p&l for a couple of months, and then take the evidence to interview.

  • My best advice is to leverage your network of contacts at the places you want to work. Most hires are the result of who people know, rather than through agencies and headhunters. Plan a campaign of meeting anyone who might be able to connect you to a hiring manager. Make sure you meet the guys who make the hiring decisions and sell yourself. I agree that the most compelling selling point will be your P & L - if you can show a healthy track record you will be more attractive. Try firms like Brookleigh Search and Selection and Execuzen as well.
