Answer this questionNot necessarily, if you get operational experience, you will get a broad derivative product exposure, which will prove invaluable when applying to front office roles. From my experience, the majority of people moving into the front office roles tend to be there through contacts rather than merit, unless they have joined on a graduate training scheme. Having a bank with an established reputation will put you in good stead when applying for front office roles as well.

If you want to go to Front Office then yes, it's could hold you back quite a lot. But if you have skill then you can do it. I know enough people who have. But don't think you can still just swoop in an operations job though. Lot's of people still want to do it and it can be quite competitive.

Yes it is easy to come by and yes it is a bad entry point. However, d?v?de your salary by the number of hours you work, you ll get a good ratio. You can leverage your career through operations if you build contacts with front office guys/you get ACA, CFA, MBA, MSc whatever... It will all help. If you got what it takes, they will find you once you are in the sector. I think I made a real good point here. Cheers Good luck
