Am extremely able at mathematics. What demand (if any) is there for this kind of skill in Finance?

Will have a very good maths degree next year, want to stay challenged. Are there any jobs suited to this?

  • I heard beancounting can be challenging and pays well. Aside from that there isnt demand for numeracy in the city. People who like to talk about their feelings tend to do much better.

  • You can look for quant positions but you generally need a PhD. Physicists tend to be preferred as they have a more practical approach. And what do you mean by "extremely able"?

  • As Todd says, there is quantitative finance with jobs that often require a PhD. That's pretty challenging, but you will need to study more. That may be a PhD, CQF or masters. I've written a guide to quant careers with a reading list.

  • if u show u can apply ur raw maths ability to financial and real-world problems, and that u r interested in the IB business and markets, i think there will be a demand from IB derivatives trading desks . also from quant-style hedge funds
