  • Hello - depends in the country you are in. In 2006 I was based in Ireland and the Irish Institute of Bankers were offering a three module - three exams sort of course (courses lasted 6 months) on Fund Administration (with practical examples), Custody, Legal & Regulatory (Specialist Diploma in Investment Funds Services). I have been working a total of 7 years in Securities Services and now brokerage, and still now I go back to those books every now and then. CFA to my opinion is more if you were keen to move into an investment decision position (asset manager for instance), I dont think it is very relevant to securities services, but I may be wrong.

  • CFA is glorified stock picking and is not a degree by any means. For securities services look at the Investment Admin Qualification from Securities & Investment Institute.

  • Any course will do. For example you can be a doctor and do a job as an equity research analyst in healthcare sector. You can be an actor and still do well in banking by being a very good sales person.
