  • I'm afraid Alan is incorrect - I doubt there is a single FTSE 100 FD with ACCA whereas at least 25 will have ACA. Ditto for senior positions within banks

  • Alan.....what are you on about?!?! Do simple search on this site to look at the types of roles each brings up. ACCA = pure finance function roles such as financial control, financial analyst etc.. ACA = a wide range of roles from strategy, finance, Front office banking, Asset Management and Private Equity.

  • ACCA without a doubt. Truely global and flexible.

  • Arrogant brits still proud as ACA in the tiny island nation. watch elsewhere, no distinct at all between ACCA (CPA) or CA in overseas like US, Australia. as long as you are qualified accountant, the career path does not look too different as ACA/ACCA

  • after working w/ ACA & ACCA holders, i dont see difference in work quality & technical knowledge between them. it's the personal qualities that give the difference in work & professionalism, not the awarding body.

  • The ACA is offered by the big 4, which are harder schemes to get into than the ACCA (which anyone can start doing, correct me if i am wrong but it seems to be the case), hence as a by product the candidates are a lot higher calibre from ACA. distinctions between the ACA and ACCA i am not sure, but on the basis of academic criteria to start the ACA, from outset it would appear stronger

  • I am an ACCA and I consider ACCA to be a broader, more technically challenging examination. However ACA's power as a professional body is because it is twice the size of ACCA in the UK but ACCA is larger globally. ACA's will of course be more likely to hire ACA's as they will see them as one of them and they think they know what they are getting. ACCA's flexibility also means that some ACCA's will have great experience and other's will not. I think the reasons why employer's favour Big 4 is it in a way it is a club, their boss is likely to be ACA too.

  • There is no doubt that top UK banks prefer ACA. City banks have started recruiting ACCAs only a few years ago and only because of shortage of ACAs. If I'm to start studying now and have ambition to work for a bank/hedge fund, I would definitely go for ACA (BTW I'm ACCA qualified, just stating what I can see).
