Doing an ACA, want to do MBA after, is it worth doing a CFA too?

Hi, I am currently doing an ACA at a big 4 restructuring practice, I want to move into debt restructuring at a bulge bracket firm once I have done this. I also really want to get an MBA after I move, so my questions are: 1) Which banks are most likely to fund a top MBA? 2) Is it worth doing the CFA before I move over? If you guys can think of more lucrative options I would love to hear them....

  • Stacking all those qualifications on top of one another won't help you land a job in IB. One alone would be sufficient.

  • CFA and MBA are both good compliments to ACA. (I am ACA and CFA) It depends very much where you want to go - if it's asset management I'd go with CFA only, if more structured finance (eg debt recovery) I'd do an MBA (Only if from at least a top 20 school). As an example, I work in Private Equity and CFA means almost nothing to me here - an MBA is much more useful in my case (so now considering it and if I knew I'd end up in PE I would have done it from the start) Either way, at the end of the day it's up to you as an individual, if you are driven enough you can make a success in any of these careers with or without ACA, CFA or MBA.

  • v few would sponsor full fee for MBA nowadays. the cases are now EMBA but for senior staff & u need to be in the firm for certain yrs before going to the course. typically they are reserved for future firm leaders paving the way into top mgt roles

  • Banks willing to fund MBA? Which planet are you on? Please start reading the FT... Instead of spending your life doing qualifications try and get some work experience - perhaps the debt advisory team within your Big 4 firm...
