  • The simple fact of the matter is that people in banking will see the ACCA as a dumbed down version of the ACA for whatever reason. ACA is the most prestigious in the eyes of employers generally.

  • Further to the answer above, where does CIMA fit into all of this nowadays? Is it rated at all or not, and if it is how does it compare to ACA?

  • I have worked for a big 4 firm for a number of years - and I have seen first hand that ACAs are not only paid significantly more than ACCAs, they are promoted faster, fast tracked into management and many move into banking. I have also seen several ACA colleagues that have been given opportunities in NYC on secondment from the London office. I have also noticed for many banking jobs ACAs are favoured over ACCAs. (I am not an ACA or ACCA though... I'm an MBA).

  • ACA stands for "A Cut Above" as arrogant as that sounds it holds it's weight. When I was training for the first two exams as an ACA trainee a guy I was working with failed the same exams twice in a row. As soon as he transferred to the ACCA he passed them first time. The academic ability & hard work to pass the exams ensure that ACA's a much higher calibre.

  • do u realise ACA have mutual recognition agreements with growing no of overseas bodies ? i.e. an accountant from Oz/HK can get ACA directly w/o sitting any conversion exams. is it still that prestigious ? also as a CA having worked outside the Isles, people prefer those w/ CFA rather than CA in front office roles like CF, Asset Mgt & Equity Research. No niche vs ACCA at all, unfortunately to be true
