Emerging markets FX pros remain in vogue

Recruiters say banks are still stocking up on emerging markets FX professionals.
“There are a lot of people looking at emerging markets, in FX and fixed income,” says David Reynolds, head of the fixed income practice at search firm Sheffield Haworth. “Asset managers are getting more involved in hiring emerging markets professionals, as are hedge funds, which are also trading FX.”
FX Week reports that Merrill Lynch and HSBC have made emerging market foreign exchange hires in the past few months, as has the European Islamic Investment Bank.
David Bloom, head of currency strategy at HSBC says emerging markets FX is a strong growth area. “You only have to come to the floors of some of these big banks and you will see swaths of people working on emerging markets that only had small departments five years ago,” he recently told The Times.
