Business Analyst (IT) in an Investment Bank, 4 yrs ex, to join Asset/Fund Management firm? MBA (Fin) with CFA L-2.

I am a Senior BA with IT experience, and very motivated to shift into Asset Management. My only problem is that such people are dime-a-dozen. Is there any way I could diffrentiate muself from the herd? I know taking up CFA charter is one of them, and developing important contacts is another. Does anyone know other developments?
