  • You will obviously have to start out in a graduate job. Which specific sector in finance/business you apply for will be entirely dependant on you, but if you a quantitatively gifted then you will have several options ... including cleaning toilets.

  • Keep up the good work!. Every one passes through the same phase in life when they finish their degrees , its just that people forget about there PAST. keep on applying and dont worry other people will clean your toilets.

  • foget about IB this yr & next. massive lay offs around in big BB. boutiques are hiring but only for experienced, not fresh starters.

  • Try and get 1 to 4 weeks work experience in the City over the summer, whether it be temping or voluntary. Speak to the HR departments of Investment Banks, Investment Managers and HedgeFunds directly. You can get all of their details on the corporate websites. If you can get it, this short period of experience is all you need to get the unfair advantage when competing with your fellow freshers for graduate roles. Good luck.

  • The problem with graduate jobs is simple, if you are not on the Analyst Training Program that start in June, you are really going to struggle to break it into what they call "high finance". I will come down a bit hard on you, why have you not been doing your internships, why did you not apply for jobs from last Dec? Your other problem is that other indirect routes such as Trainee Accountancy have hired their class for this year. Now for a possible solution, how good are your marks, can you get into consultancy for about 2yrs; go to BSchool and if you still want to do finance, come back into it. Lastly, as much as you might not like what hs alumni wrote, trust me, this is the attitute of the majority of people in investment banks (we can argue about how unfair it is, but if you are not from a "top school"; you will need to be so superior to your average peers before they consider you). Good luck.

  • BeenAround, would you mind ranking exactly the top BSchools in terms of Msc Finance, or Msc Financial Mathematics? As I want to break into the Finance sector, particularly as a trader or if not as a portfolio manager in the new future, but as everybody knows, currently is very difficult and I would like to do the most of my time by doing one of this masters. (The Times Online does not provide ranking for Msc) Thanks in advance.
