fresh graduates - other than top recruiters? Where to look with average grades in wake of a market turmoil?

I am an international graduate with international management masters degree from uni. of edinburgh. My first degree is bachelors in business administration from india. I have only a couple of months work-ex in UK. I got my work permit sorted out recently though. My academics had been above average; not outstanding. I am looking for graduate position where firms hire raw talent. This could be in any sector. I can work my way up but I dont want to compromise my degree i.e. position that require degree as a pre-requisite with a career progression is my desire. I am interested in the financial sector primarily private equity. But I am aware it is very competitive. I dont want to look for september 2009 starts as i want to start latest by january 2009. I am open to the whole financial sector and others i.e. banks, accountancy, insurance, energy, oil, funds infrastructure, utilities etc Please suggest.

  • Most graduate hires are done direct via online application. I would recommend looking at all banks and financial institutions online and start to apply for roles that way. Agencies are not normally engaged to hire raw graduates because fees are payable which is unecessary. Also, many firms have links with universities so use that angle to find opportunities. You should try to narrow down what area you want to approach - it sounds too desperate if you just say that you will work anywhere. Good luck
